Pros and Cons of Fully Remote Work

Research published in the Wall Street Journal on January 12, 2024 indicated that workers who spend at least part of their time in the office are more likely to get promoted and mentored than fully-remote employees. If you are new in your company, female, and/or aspire to a management role, the downside of fully remote work can be significant.

“[Stanford economist] Bloom’s research has found that fully remote workers are more productive than their fully on-site peers, but because remote workers miss out on casual in-person conversations around the office, relationships suffer, and their promotion prospects tend to take a hit.”
